You watch as the letter turns to ash in the brazier beside you. Mustering your courage, you walk towards the throne room doors.
You push open the wide doors and the throne room opens out to you. Dimly lit by canldes, the rabble dies down.
With every step your heartbeat quickens as you approach the throne. The braziers cast dark shadows over the throne, and the kings face is barely visible.
"Well?" The King's voice booms over the room, washing fear over his subjects.
"The Western forces have won a great victory. Your enemies are defeated at last, your grace."
The King smiles, his face half hidden in the light. The room is loud with the cheers of happiness of the lords and nobles. There are cries for a feast, for music, for joy.
Unnoticed to you, The Treasurer was in the throne room, half hidden in the shadows. He now rushes forwards to the King, who is talking to the crowd, regailing the strength of the soldiers who went West. He whispers in the kings ear. His face drops. Your heart is racing.
"The Treasurer has just told me that this Knight before us is a liar, a cheat and a spy." The King roars,"He has lied about the war. Our soliders have perished at the hands of our foes. We must send more troops to avenge our fallen brothers. This can only happen with your help, the free people of my Kingdom. I beg of you, pay your taxes, so we can avenge this sad news"
You stand there, too stunned to talk, rage filling you up like a bucket. It overflows and you draw your sword.
"Sieze this evil man! He is no true Knight!" cries The King
You are surrounded by soldiers, they form a tight ring around you, none wanting to dance. They know your skills with a blade.
You must make a choice...
Do you rush the King, and end his tyranny?
Or...
Do you rush the doors and try to escape the Kingdom with your son?
